I have decided this last weekend that I want to learn about Classical Music and appreciate it. So, I decided to start of with Beethoven. To be honest, I am rather lost on where to start with what I should listen to, so I compiled a playlist of songs by Beethoven and picked which pieces I like the best. So far, my favorite is Symphony #7 Movement II. This piece is the soundtrack to the movie The Fall (which I LOVE) and was also used in The King's Speech (another fantastic film).
I think I will adopt a new Classical Composer each day and learn more about their music. If anyone has any suggestions about my journey of classical music appreciation, let me know! I am always ready to learn!
Jumping out of the defined realm of "Classical" movement into "Romantic", I think you would like Berlioz's "Symphonie Fantastique"...find program notes for it when you're listening, it tells a story that you can really hear in the music. Faure is a personal favorite - I sang his "Clair de Lune" in voice lessons, and it was for sure the most beautiful thing I was ever assigned :)
